You can stop writing in now – the Mayor & Council unanimously voted to accept the $1.5 million grant and keep RedGate park “in perpetuity.” This would not have happened without the tremendous community response.
A huge thanks to everyone who wrote in and everyone who attended the meeting last night.

Previous Information (for reference)
The City of Rockville received a $1.5 million Land and Water Conservation Fund grant to support improvements at RedGate Park – including new trails, habitat restoration, accessibility upgrades, and other enhancements identified in the park’s master plan.
However, a few members of the Mayor and Council have expressed hesitation about accepting the grant because it would legally make RedGate Park a park in perpetuity. That’s exactly what the community understood and supported when the RedGate Park Master Plan was adopted. On November 17th the Mayor & Council will vote to accept/decline the grant.
Declining the grant wouldn’t just mean losing this opportunity – it could also make it harder for the City to secure future grants. And even with “in perpetuity” protection, there’s still a process for making changes if a compelling public reason ever arises.
👉 Please take a moment to email the Mayor and Council at mayorcouncil@rockvillemd.gov and urge them to accept the grant and move forward with the improvements the community has long supported. You can also read our letter to the Mayor & Council.
A simple note could include:
• why RedGate matters to you
• why RedGate should remain a park “in perpetuity.”
• asking the Mayor & Council to accept the grant for RedGate
[Be sure to include your name and neighborhood.]
